Obituary

Dr. Robert Blair Macbeth, 88, of Calhoun, died Saturday, February 24, 2018. Dr. Macbeth was born January 23, 1930 in Atlantic City, NJ, to parents John Stewart Macbeth and Anna Belle Benson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, William Macbeth and Jack Macbeth.
After graduating from Atlantic City High School, he attended the University of Alabama, marrying and enlisting in the United States Air Force prior to graduation. During the Korean War, he was stationed in England as a radio communications officer and instructor, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Following his military service, Dr. Macbeth returned to the University of Alabama to complete his degree, and then moved his young family to Pensacola, Florida, where he was a teacher and coach at Blount Junior High School. He subsequently returned to the University of Alabama to obtain his doctorate degree in education, and then worked for the United States Department of Education in Atlanta until his retirement.
Dr. Macbeth married Georgia Ann Brannon in 1981 and moved to Calhoun, Georgia where he resided until his death. He had a lifelong love of sports, especially University of Alabama football. He also had a passion throughout his life for mentoring and improving the lives of others as a coach and educator.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Georgia Ann Macbeth; sons and daughters-in-law, Blair and Cathy Macbeth of Dahlonega, GA, Glenn and Gerry Macbeth of Murfreesboro, TN, and Brian Macbeth of Dahlonega, GA; a daughter, Wanda Macbeth of Dahlonega, GA; a step-daughter, Paula Fowler and her husband John of Buford, GA; grandchildren, John Macbeth and Reese Macbeth, Erin Rubin, and Alison Macbeth, ; step- grandchildren, John Fowler, James Fowler, Dr. Christopher Miles Fowler, and Ann Taylor; great-granddaughters, Hadley Mae Rubin, Aiden Macbeth, and Ayla Macbeth; step-great-grandchildren, Eleanor Fowler, Penelope Fowler, Evangeline Fowler, Forest Fowler, Jonathan Taylor, Ethan Taylor, LaRose Taylor, and Ian Taylor; a sister, Mary Jane Allen of Miami, FL; his former wife, Catherine Macbeth of Dahlonega, GA.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 3rd at 1:00 p.m., from Chandler Cemetery. The family would like to thank Leslie DePerro of Georgia Care at Home, and especially caregiver Kim Myers, who has so lovingly cared for Dr. Macbeth and his wife Georgia.
