Dr. Wilber A. Bishop Jr

Dr. Wilber A. Bishop, Jr., age 88 of Fairmount, died at his residence on June 15, 2017. He was born on January 10, 1929 in Aberdeen, MS, son of the late Wilber A Bishop, Sr. and Helen Williams Bishop.
Dr. Bishop was a veteran, serving his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Air Force. He entered the service less than a year after graduating from Collegedale Academy in Collegedale, TN in 1947. He was married to Pattie Miller in 1956 and received his Doctorate Degree in Dentistry from Loma Linda University in 1959. He moved from California in 1974 to practice in Summerville, GA, and served patients until 1987. At that time he opened his practice in Calhoun, GA, and later retired in 1998. He and Pattie made many friends through the years, not only in the dental practice, but in their travels around the country and through short term mission endeavors with Maranatha Volunteers International. He was an avid golfer. He loved Gods creation and was a member of the Calhoun Seventh-day Adventist Church. In addition to his parents, Dr. Bishop was preceded in death by his wife, Pattie Bishop, and a sister, Carolyn Bishop.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, David and Carla Bishop of Fairmount, GA; his daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Doug Barrow of McDonald, TN; a brother, Dr. Joe Bishop of Calhoun, GA, and a sister, Lecta Johnson of Maryville, TN; grandchildren, Zack Barrow, Morgan Barrow, Diana Bishop and Carson Bishop; a brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Dr. Wilber A. Bishop, Jr. will be held Tuesday, June 20th at 6:00 PM at the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, with Pastor Ken Mittleider officiating. Music will be arranged by Faye Pierce Bentley. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Pallbearers serving include David Bishop, Carson Bishop, Zack Barrow, Doug Barrow, James Bishop, and Frank Schrader.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, June 19th between the hours of 5:30 PM and 8:00 PM.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Maranatha Volunteers International, 990 Reserve Drive, Suite 100, Roseville, CA 85678.
