Drexel Walker

Mr. Drexel Walker, age 84 of Calhoun, Georgia, died Saturday, May 12, 2007 at Heartland Hospice Center at Cartersville, Georgia.

Mr. Walker was born on April 09, 1923 at Meriwether, Georgia, son of he late Walter Lee Walker and Salome Storey Walker. He was also preceded in death by a son Greg Walker in 1999, by two sisters; Allene Henry and Amanda Walker and two brothers, Carl Walker and Leon Walker. Mr. Walker moved to Gordon County in 1968 from Troup County and while living there, was employed with Callaway Mills of LaGrange, Georgia and then became associated with Horizon Mills and Aldon Mills of Calhoun in supervision.

Mr. Walker was a veteran of the US Army, having served for fourteen years and was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church in Meriwether County, Georgia.

Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Ann Heard Walker of the home; one daughter, Traci Floyd and her husband, James; three sons; Alan Walker and his wife Carol, Daryl Walker and his wife Tammy, and Jeffery Walker; two sisters, Inez Langford of Cartersville, Georgia and Myrtle Jochim of Griffin, Georgia; one brother, Joel Walker of Woodbury, Georgia. Thirteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Drexel Walker will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Parker, Jr. and Rev. Ronnie Wells officiating. Singing will be arranged by the King Family. Pallbearers serving will include; Alan; Daryl, Jeff, Traci, Michele, Jamie, Johnny and Joel. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home Monday evening during the hours of 5:00pm and 9:00pm. The family requests that flowers be omitted and contributions be made to the Drexel Walker Memorial Fund. Burial will follow the service at Haven of Rest Memorial Park with military honors being accorded.
