D.W. Champion

Mr. D.W. Champion, age 83 of Calhoun, died Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Redmond Regional Medical Center following a period of declining health.

Mr. Champion had been a resident of Star Manor Assisted Living in Cartersville prior to his illness. He was born in Gordon County on August 14, 1930, son of the late Elbert L. Champion and the late Belle Bowen Champion. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Earnest Carter Champion, Jim Champion and Tom Champion; and a sister, Susie Champion. He attended Red Bud School. Early in his career he was employed by O'Jay Mills, Dixie Bell Mills, and prior to his retirement, was employed by Johnson Rebuilt Parts and Service. He was a veteran, serving his country in the United States Army.

Survivors include a son, Garry Champion and his wife Kelly of Euharlee, GA; a daughter, Diane Kenny of Dalton; a sister and brother-in-law, Lillie Mae and Lee Hall of Calhoun; and grandchildren, Hagen, Johnny, Muzette and Kasey. A great- grandchild, Alexis Hatcher; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. D.W. Champion will be conducted Tuesday, September 24th at 1:00 PM from Georgia National Cemetery in Canton with military honors, and Rev. Ralph Jenkins officiating.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 24th between the hours of 10:30 AM and 12:00 noon at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.
