Mr. Earl Vance Holmes age 95 of Victor Street, Calhoun died Thursday, November 17, 2011 at his residence following a period of declining health.
Mr. Holmes was born in Ranger, Georgia on January 19, 1916, son of the late Leonard and Evie Chastain Holmes. He was preceded in death by his wife Tressie Anna Greene Holmes in 2006 and by four sisters, Beatrice Richardson, Eunice Holmes, Estelle Watkins and Earlee Nesbitt.
Mr. Holmes was a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II. and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Ribbon and the Victory Medal. For the greater part of his career he was employed by Farmers Mutual Exchange as a Clerk and Broiler Division Supervisor and later retired from Lawtex Industries. During the period of his retirement, he enjoyed the outdoors and mowing his lawn. He would be seen most days visiting the Burger King on South Wall Street accompanied by his service Dog "Hutch".
Those who survive are two Sons, Michael "Yard Dog" Holmes of Plainville and Alan Holmes and his wife, Linda of Calhoun, and one brother, J. Pendley Holmes and one sister, Ruth Wood. Two grandsons, Jeff and Kevin Holmes and five great grandchildren; Ashley Holmes, Hunter Holmes, Kaylie Holmes Khloe Holmes, Kylie Holmes. Nieces and nephews also survive along with other relatives.
Funeral services for Mr. Earl Vance Holmes will be held Sunday November 20th at 3:00 PM from the Chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with Dr. John Allen officiating. Interment will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Active Pallbearers are Louie Watkins, Eddie Watkins, Charles Prater, Kevin Holmes, Jeff Holmes, Jerry Price.
The Holmes family will receive friends after 10 AM Saturday.
