Mrs. Edna Johnston Baker, age 77 of Fairmount, GA passed away Monday, February 24, 2014 at Gordon Hospital following a brief illness. She was born in Gordon County on October 31, 1936, daughter of the late Melvin and Minnie Lois Kay Pendley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Randy Johnston; her first husband, Ralph Kimbol Johnston; her second husband, Buddy Baker; and sister, Jean Aycock.
Mrs. Baker attended Dallas Nursing School, attaining an LPN degree, and was employed with Hamilton Medical Center for 30 years. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
She leaves behind two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Debbie Johnston of Fairmount, and Steve and Patty Baker of Calhoun; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Bob Causey of Winston, GA; grandchildren, Bryttany and Shane Fields of Cedartown, GA, Cole Johnston, Chad Causey, and Chuck Keener; and a great-grandchild, Kayce Fields. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Edna Johnston Baker will be held Wednesday, February 26th at 2:00 PM from Antioch Baptist Church, with Rev. Larry Hibberts officiating. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery near Sonoraville, with Randy Muse officiating. Active pallbearers will include Steven Ballew, Ronald Ballew, Jerry Bearden, John Dutton, Gary Fuller, and Donald Worley. Honorary pallbearers are members of Mrs. Bakers Sunday School Class at Antioch Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Tuesday after 4:00 PM.
