Mrs. Edna Mae McDougle, age 89 of the Erwin Hill Community, Calhoun, passed away Friday, November 22, 2013 at her residence. She was a native of Gordon County, born on April 4, 1924 to the late W.A. and Leona Sheriff Sutherland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fate McDougle in 1980; two sons, Marvin McDougle and Charles McDougle; siblings, Hubert Sutherland, Howard Sutherland, A.B. Sutherland, Gladys Padgett, and Lorine Jackson; and grandchildren, Eddie Albrecht and Darla Albrecht.
During her lifetime, Mrs. McDougle was a seamstress, and was employed with Georgia Textile, and had worked at Wal-Mart for 11 years, helping stock the first Calhoun store. She was a 50 year member of Sonora Order of the Eastern Star, and called Union Grove Baptist Church her home church.
She leaves behind her children, Joyce Jones, Jean Albrecht, Johnny McDougle and his wife Rose, and Dale McDougle, all of Calhoun, Juanita Young and her husband Jim of Springfield, MS, and Steve McDougle and his wife Jerrie of Calhoun; a brother, Dallas Sutherland of Calhoun; and a sister, Bertha Thomas of Calhoun. Grandchildren surviving are Phyllis Cochran, Michael McDougle, Mitchell McDougle, Marvin McDougle, Jr., Marty Jones, Carol Bearden, Kathy Hollaran, Sherry Gallman, Lisa Towe, Alan McDougle, Daniel Young, Benjamin Young, Susan Craig, Angel Albrecht, and Johnny Richards. Twenty-eight great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; 1 great-great-great grandchild; and nieces and nephews also survive.
Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Edna Mae McDougle will be held Sunday, November 24th at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Larry Hibberts and Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Grove Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and include Johnny Richards, Alan McDougle, Mitchell McDougle, Marvin McDougle II, Michael McDougle, Marty Jones, and Phillip Craig.
The McDougle family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Saturday, November 23rd from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
