Mrs. Edna Stamey Reece, age 79 of Sugar Valley, passed away Monday, January 12, 2009 at her residence following several months of declining health.

Mrs. Reece was born on March 19, 1929 in Gordon County, daughter of the late Carl and Ruby York Stamey. During her lifetime, she and her husband owned and operated Reece's Grocery Store in Sugar Valley. She was a member of New Zion Baptist Church.

Mrs. Reece is survived by her husband, E.E. (Jim) Reece of Sugar Valley; two sons, Michael Reece and his wife Alice, and Tony Reece and his wife Gail; a sister, Betty Grogan and her husband Ray of Calhoun; grandchildren, Cassie Reece, Mike Reece and his wife Jennifer, Jimmy Reece and his wife Emily, T.W. Reece and C.J. Reece; and great-grandchildren, Alaina Reece, Lauren Reece and Adilyn Reece.

Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Stamey Reece will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00am from the Sugar Valley Baptist Church, with Rev. Mitch Phillips and Rev. Dwaine Shadix officiating. Singing will be arranged by Alice Reece. Interment will follow the service in the Sugar Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home between the hours of 5:00pm and 9:00pm, and on Wednesday morning. Mrs. Reece will lie in state at Sugar Valley Baptist Church Wednesday from 10:00am until the funeral hour. Active pallbearers serving will include Mike Reece, Jimmy Reece, Harold Brown, Keith VanDyke, Eric Shaw, T.W. Reece, Donnie Reece, and Gerald Reece. Honorary pallbearers serving will include C.J. Reece, Mike West, Wade Floyd, Bobby Dobson, Bobby Brown, Tyrone Cooper, Jacques Hall, and Tim VanDyke.

Family owned and operated Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home is conducting the funeral services for Mrs. Edna Stamey Reece of Sugar Valley.
