Edward Allen Gowens, 73 of Calhoun, died Monday, December 18, 2017, following an extended illness. He was born in Gordon County on December 10, 1944, son of the late M.A. and Lula Roye Gowens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Bob Hicks; a sister, Angellee Hicks; and a sister-in-law, Jean Gowens.
Ed was a talented musician and songwriter, having written over 500 songs. In his younger years, he was a member of several local bands. Most recently, he was associated with Echota Records. He loved helping new artists in the independent country music world. He was an inductee to the Independent Country Music Hall of Fame.
Survivors include his brother, Harvey Gowens of Calhoun; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Marvis and Boyd Blalock of Calhoun, and Darlene and David Hicks of Dalton; nieces and nephews; and special friend, Donna Ray Bryant.
Services to honor the life of Edward Allen Gowens will be held Thursday, December 21st at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Clinton Green and Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include Allen Blalock, Tony Gowens, Tracy Gowens, Cody Blalock, John Hicks, and Corey Childers. Honorary pallbearers are Tim Hicks, Jimmy Brown, and Tony Miller.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 20th from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
