Mrs. Elsie Bowen Holbert, age 75 of Love Bridge Road, Calhoun, passed away Monday, November 10, 2008 at Gordon Hospital following an extended illness.
Mrs. Holbert was born on February 14, 1933 in Gordon County, daughter of the late Lloyd Bowen, Sr. and Julia Belle Casey Bowen. Besides her parents, Mrs. Holbert was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Henry Holbert, and a brother, Lloyd Bowen, Jr. During her lifetime she was employed by Georgia Textiles, and was a member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, where she attended the Ladies Adult Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Holbert is survived by her son and his wife, Gary and Joyce Holbert of Calhoun; three sisters, Elizabeth Everett of South Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Wynene Bowen, and Mary Nell Towers and her husband Bill, all of Calhoun; two brothers, Richard Bowen and Dale Bowen, both of Calhoun; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Bowen of Resaca, and two grandchildren; Whitney Holbert and Madison Holbert. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Elsie Bowen Holbert will be conducted Wednesday at 3:00pm from the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, with Rev. Bob Oesterle and Rev. Lamar Bearden officiating. Interment will follow in the Chandler Cemetery, with Rev. James Braddy conducting the graveside service. Active pallbearers serving will include Randy Seabolt, Brian Towers, Bobby Holsomback, Dale Bennett, Harold Chapman, Jr., Ronnie Everett, Don Everett and Terry Everett. These gentlemen are requested to meet at the funeral home Wednesday at 2:00pm. Honorary escorts will include Tommy Phillips, Charles and Jackie Tyner, Claude and Daphne Frady, James and Maudie Clark, Huey and Jean Russell, Neal and Patrice Barwick, Sharon Wilson, Sally Jarrett, Bonnie Weaver, Mary Johnson, and Jerry and Carolyn Childs. They are requested to meet at the church on Wednesday at 2:45pm. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in memory of Mrs. Holbert. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home Tuesday during the hours of 5:00pm and 9:00pm.
