Elsie Marie Long Fountain, 89, of Calhoun died Wednesday, November 1, 2017. She was born in Pickens County on June 26, 1928, daughter of the late Harvie Long and Anna Carver Long. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Denton H. Fountain in 1997; her son, Douglas H. Fountain in 1999; a grandson, Ryan Lemming in 2016; and her brothers, Herman Long, Billy Long, and Talmadge Long.
Elsie was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a caregiver to many children throughout the years, who lovingly referred to her as "Grandma". She loved baking, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. Elsie was a member of New Town Baptist Church and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. She loved her church family and always welcomed everyone with her smile.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Fountain Gray; three grandchildren, Stephanie Fountain Ollis, Patricia Fountain Woodring, and Heather Lemming Black; five great-grandchildren, Hunter Ollis, Jude Woodring, Keagan Woodring, Bailee-Anne Black, and Breck Black; a brother, Charles Long and his wife Barbara; sisters, Crystal Fountain and Tamer Mullinax and her husband Coy; her daughters-in-law, Phyllis Fountain and Menisa Jone; and a host of special nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. from New Town Baptist Church. Pastor Walter Hare and Pastor David Ray will officiate. Music will be arranged by the New Town Quartet. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers serving are Eddie Mullinax, Audy Mullinax, Mike Boswell, Joel Lipton, Brannon Fain, and Jackson Murray. Honorary pallbearers serving are the Senior Adult Sunday School Class.
The Fountain family will receive friends at New Town Baptist Church on Friday, November 3rd from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
