Mrs. Emma Ruth Stone Skidmore, age 74 of Sugar Valley, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at Gordon Hospital. She was born in Whitfield County on September 21, 1934, daughter of the late Fred and Lillie Duvall Stone. She was truly Christ-like, loving and faithful, and was a member of Hill City Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Skidmore was preceded in death by three brothers; Farnell Waldrop, Carl Stone, and Harold Stone; and two sisters; Betty Stone and Dimple Jackson.
Survivors include three sons; Steve Skidmore and Jerry Skidmore, both of Hill City, and Rocky Skidmore and his wife Lani of Calhoun; two daughters, Linda Gail Etheridge and her husband David of Calhoun, and Joan Davis of Metter, GA; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald and Mary Francis Stone of Dalton, and Donald and Linda Stone of Tilton; and a sister, Opal Carr of Calhoun. Also surviving are grandchildren; Jason and Anita Etheridge, Alison and Cyrus Bennett, and Afton Skidmore, all of Calhoun; Melea and Jeff Romine of Fairmount, Cassie Davis of Metter, Justin Skidmore, Lori Skidmore, and Josh Hughes, all of Red Bud; and Whitney Skidmore of Rockmart; and great grandchildren, Katlyn Etheridge and Bricen and Gabby Romine.
Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Ruth Stone Skidmore will be conducted Friday, October 17 at 3:00pm from the Hill City Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny Sheriff officiating. Pallbearers will be nephews and grandsons. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Thursday after 12:00 noon. Burial will follow in the Skidmore Family Cemetery at Hill City.
