Mrs. Esther Colston Dupree, age 85, a well known resident of Calhoun, died Tuesday, October 26th, 2010 at Morning Pointe Assisted Living where she had resided since May of 2009. Mrs. Dupree was born in Cobb County on December 1st, 1924, daughter of the late Farris and Bessie Crawford Colston. She was a member of Calhoun Community Church.
She, along with her late husband Emmett Dupree, who died in 2007, owned and operated the Men's Den Stores and founded Dream Tours. Also preceding her in death was a sister, Willia Lee Towers.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Belva Dupree Swably and her husband Steve of Calhoun; a son, Ronnie Dupree of Rome; a grandson, Ryan Swably and his wife Christy of Calhoun; an aunt, Jean Anderson of Cobb County; a nephew, Ray Towers; special caregivers, Jackie Roberson, Inez Owens, and Glenda Morris; and a host of cousins and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mrs. Esther Colston Dupree will be conducted Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 2:00pm from the Calhoun Community Church, with Pastor Jerry Rice, Rev. Jesse Harkins, Rev. Harold Jones, and Ryan Swably officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Fain Cemetery. Music will be arranged by Mr. Jimi Hall. Active pallbearers will include Joel Dupree, Jason Sloan, Scott Culberson, Randy Muse, Chad King, Lane Lawson and Erik Henson. Honorary pallbearers are Pete Lewis, Mac Carney, Jerry Hall, Ken Herron, Loel McKinnon, Leon Covington, Alvin Hale, Charles Baker, James Lawson, Jimmy King, Jerry Mulkey and Richard Langston.
Mrs. Dupree will be placed in state at the Calhoun Community Church on Friday at 10:30am. The family will receive friends Friday from 4:00pm until 9:00pm.
