Ethel Dodd

Mrs. Ethel "Granny" Dodd, age 95 of Calhoun, passed away Monday, April 26, 2010 at Gordon Hospital. She was a native of Gordon County, born on May 17, 1914 to the late Clarence and Mary Poarch Bagley.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Dodd; two daughters, Melba Dodd and Charlene Fain; two sons, Waylon Dodd and Harlen Dodd; a granddaughter, Brenda Coggins; a great-granddaughter, Kimberly Mullins; four daughters-in-law, Katheryn Dodd, Joan Dodd, Shirley Dodd, and Learnie Dodd; and a son-in-law, Wallace Roland. Mrs. Dodd was a mother and homemaker during her lifetime, and was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.

Survivors include five sons, Harold Dodd, C.J. Dodd, Bill Dodd, Ford Dodd, and Ronnie Dodd and his wife Melissa, all of Calhoun; five daughters, Shirley Roland of Calhoun, Evelyn Oliver and her husband Jesse of Centre, Alabama, Faye Dodd, Hope Lewis and her husband Gary, and Carol Puckett; a daughter-in-law, Maybell Knight and her husband Alfred, and a son-in-law, Ralph Fain, all of Calhoun. Also surviving is a sister, Mabel Baxter of Rome; a special friend and caregiver, Betty German; 73 grandchildren, 101 great-grandchildren, and 39 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ethel "Granny" Dodd will be conducted Wednesday, April 28 at 2:00pm from the Trinity Baptist Church, with Rev. Tim McCulley and Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Interment will follow in Gordon Memorial Gardens with Rev. Perry Blackstock conducting the committal service. Active pallbearers will include David Dodd, Danny Fain, Lanier Roland, Jerry Dodd, Jeff Dodd, Greg Dodd, Randy Oliver, Blake Dodd, and Wesley Dodd. All her grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Dodd's body will lie in state at Trinity Baptist Church on Wednesday from 12:00pm until the funeral hour of 2:00pm.

The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Tuesday beginning at 5:00pm.
