Mrs. Eunice Grizzle Carney Denton, age 83 of Calhoun, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2009 at Gordon Hospital following an extended illness. She was born in North Bend, Oregon on July 5, 1925, daughter of the late Eli Washington Grizzle and Dora Seabolt Grizzle. Mrs. Denton was retired from Mannington Carpets, and was a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by six brothers; Rev. Gay Grizzle, J.C. Grizzle, John Grizzle, Homer Grizzle, David Grizzle, and Jim Grizzle; seven sisters, Bertie Norton, Edith Grizzle, Dora Seabolt, Hester Martin, Laura Pratt, Fanny Totherow, and Tilda Wood, and a grandchild, Dean Carney.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Donna Carney of Calhoun; two daughters, Diane Thomason and her husband Mike of Calhoun, and Sandy Carney of Rome; five grandchildren, Brian Cagle, Tina Wilson, Quenton Pitts, Ryan Land, and Jeremy Land; and six great-grandchildren, Taylor Wilson, Seth Wilson, Tristen Pitts, Dominick Pitts, Taylor Land, and Travis Land. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Eunice Grizzle Carney Denton will be conducted Wednesday, January 7 at 3:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Eddie Brannon and Brian Cagle officiating. Interment will follow in the Monastery of Glorious Ascension Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Lane Tow, Jeremy Land, Eddie Carney, Jeff Grizzle, Dale Silvers, and Ricky Witt. These gentlemen are asked to meet at the funeral home Wednesday at 2:15pm. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Tuesday from 5:00pm until 9:00pm.
