Mrs. Evie Dutton Watson, age 95, a well known and well loved resident of the Shannon Community, departed this life on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 following a brief illness while surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Gordon County, GA on December 16, 1917, daughter of the late Marion and Fannie Hayes Dutton. She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Watson in 1976; a sister, Floy Ray; and brothers, C.M. Dutton Jr., Pat Dutton, and J.B. Dutton.
Mrs. Watson was a volunteer with the Floyd Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary for 42 years. She was actively involved in exhibiting her crafts annually at the Pine Log Arts and Crafts Festival, Coosa Valley Fair and Floyd County Homemakers Christmas Bazaar. She was widely known for her "Sweet Churned Pickles" that were always a public favorite and won many Blue Ribbons for her other canned products and her sewing creations. She was selected as a judge at the Whitfield County Fair Art and Crafts exhibits, was Past President of the Woodward Valley Homemakers Association, and served during World War II as a Civil Servant at the Norfolk Naval Base where her husband was stationed. While living in Gordon County she was a member of the Farmville United Methodist Church, and after relocating to Shannon, she and her husband became members of the First Baptist Church of Shannon where she was a Sunday School teacher for more than 50 years. She will be truly missed by her many friends and by her family, who loved her dearly.
Survivors include two sons, Scott Watson and his wife Margaret, and Mickey Watson and his wife Ludy; five grandchildren, Tim Watson and his wife Debbie, Stephen Watson and his wife Davette, David Watson and his wife Paige, Adrian Watson and his wife Candace and Loigie Nillas; eight great-grandchildren, Mary Beth, Mattie, Shawn, Averie, Shaw, Hunter, Kayla and Logan; and two brothers, Max and Earl Dutton, both of Adairsville, GA. A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
A service to celebrate the homegoing of Evie Dutton Watson will be held Saturday, November 23rd at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Doug Ballard officiating. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery.
The Watson family will receive friends Friday between the hours of 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
