Florence Sewell

Mrs. Florence Brown Glass Sewell, age 87 of Calhoun, passed away July 4, 2008 at her residence.

Mrs. Sewell was born on January 15, 1921 in Murray County, daughter of the late Will Hall and Ollie Rick Hall. Mrs. Sewell was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Lee Brown and later by her husband, J.R. (Russell) Glass. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. M.M. (Dude) Hall, and Mr. Elisha Hall, and by six sisters, Mary Gallman, Doshia Bright, Pallie Hall, Maggie Bruce, Odell Fain, and Debbie Hall. During her lifetime, Mrs. Sewell was employed in the textile industry, and with her late husband, J.R. Glass, opened the Glass Lake on September 4, 1971. She was a member of the Blackwood Springs Baptist Church, where she attended the Grace Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Sewell is survived by her husband, George W. Sewell, to whom she was married for 31 years; one daughter, Judy Thomason and her husband James of Ranger; stepdaughters, Christine Ray and her husband, Rev. Farrell Ray of Adairsville, Dixie Carver and her husband Wayne, of Adairsville, Jan Howard and her husband Larry Couey of Rome, and Ellen Pierce and her husband Larry of Calhoun; stepsons, Phillip Sewell of Calhoun, and Jerry Sewell of Rome. Three grandchildren, Mike Thomason, Doug Thomason and Steve Thomason; five great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and special friends, Arlene Elder and Joy Gilmore also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Florence Brown Glass Sewell will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 pm from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, with Dr. Ken Connor and Rev. Hershel Pierce officiating. Singing will be arranged by Faye Prather and Marilyn Roland. Active pallbearers serving will include Mike Thomason, Doug Thomason, Steve Thomason, David Patterson, Eugene Burnette, Jessie Sewell and Gary Hooker. Honorary pallbearers serving will include Troy Carver, Fred Worley, Kenneth Prather, Harvey Harrelson, Lamar Holland, and the Grace Sunday School Class of Blackwood Springs Baptist Church. Active and honorary pallbearers are requested to meet at the funeral home Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow the services at the Fain Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home Saturday evening during the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
