Frank David Gobbel

November 14, 1949 — February 19, 2017

Frank David Gobbel, 67, of Calhoun died at his home on Sunday, February 19, 2017 following several years of declining health. Frank was born in Marietta, Georgia on November 14, 1949; he was the son of the late Harry and Margaret Smith Gobbel. At age 4, Frank and his family moved to Miami, Florida. He was a graduate of Carol City High School; there, his competitive nature showed in the many sports he played. Frank was a lover of the outdoors who enjoyed golfing, boating and saltwater fishing. He raised orchids and collected more than thirty different species. Frank believed, always, in self-sufficiency; even at a young age, he lived this motto by starting a lawn service while he was still an elementary school student. He proudly served in The United States Army during the Vietnam era. Following his service, Frank worked for several companies in the South Florida area, eventually retiring from the Broward County Library System in 2012. While living in South Florida, Frank became a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner. He was active in many charitable events and causes; Frank will long be remembered for his generosity and giving nature. Frank was a great lover of chocolate candy.
Survivors include his sisters, Patricia Gobbel and Carol Gobbel; his nephew, Phillip Gobbel; his beloved dog, Dow Jones.
