Franklin "Gene" Vess

Franklin “Gene” Vess, 89, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024, at AdventHealth Gordon. He was born in Eton, Georgia, on February 12, 1934, the son of the late L.M & Florida Coffee Vess. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Martin Vess, and late wife, Addie Sue Johnson Vess; six brothers and two sisters.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, having entered into active service on July 27, 1956, and honorably discharged on July 26, 1962. While in the military, he was stationed in Korea. He was a long-time Smyrna, GA resident from 1959 to 1998. relocating from Smyrna, Gene resided in Ringgold, GA, and later moved to Calhoun. He was a member of Belmont Baptist Church. He loved his family and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his son, Marty (Sharon) Vess; grandchildren Josh (Meghan) Vess, Heather (Seth) Parr, Jake (Julianna) Vess, and JT Vess; sisters-in-law, Sandra Martin and Marilyn Vess Griffin.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm at Belmont Baptist Church.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Belmont Baptist Church with Pastor Macon Jones and Todd Smith officiating. Burial will be held in Georgia National Cemetery at a later date. Pallbearers serving include Josh Vess, Jake Vess, JT Vess, Seth Parr, Justin Smith, and Tyler Smith.
