Fred Henery Chastain, 80, of Calhoun passed away at Redmond Regional Medical Center on Friday, October 3, 2014.
Fred was born in Pickens County on February 10, 1934; he was the son of the late Fletcher William and Sarah Minnie Carver Chastain. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Mulkey, and his brother, Garry Chastain. Fred was a well-known local fiddler. He was an active member of South Calhoun Baptist Church. Fred was an avid gardener. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Fred is survived by his wife of more than 52 years, Sherri Chastain, of Calhoun; sons and daughters-in-law, Vic and Melody Chastain, of Calhoun, Tim Chastain, of Calhoun, and Shawn and Celena Chastain, of Calhoun; his nine grandchildren, Kassey and her husband Laney House, Kayla Chastain, Autumn Chastain, Jacob Chastain, Jessica Chastain, Sarah Chastain, Connor Chastain, Logan Chastain, and Abbie Kate Chastain; his four great-grandchildren, Kaselyn Chastain, Brylee House, Ella Grace House, and Quinton House; his sisters, Joan Weaver, Laverne Walker, and Nora Chambers; brothers, Leon Chastain and Billy Chastain and his wife, Christine; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. from the South Calhoun Baptist Church with Pastor Gary Bowman and Rev. Ed Pasley officiating. To honor his wishes, Fred was cremated.

The Chastain family will receive friends from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 5 at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.
