Mr. Freeman Green, age 85 of Calhoun, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Calhoun Health Care.
He was born on April 16, 1924 in Mohegan, West Virginia, son of the late Daniel and Lula Jewell Green.
During his lifetime he served his country with the United States Navy during World War II, and was retired from the Maintenance Department at the Gordon County Court House. Mr. Green had a telephone ministry for over twenty years, calling people in the community to offer them spiritual guidance, encouragement, and prayer. He was a member of the Calhoun Community Church.
Survivors include his wife, Garnette Ruth Green, to whom he was married for over 60 years; three sons, David L. Green of Orlando, Florida, and Timothy F.Green and Larry M. Green, both of Smyrna, Georgia; a sister, Juanita Ragowski of Baltimore, Maryland; and two brothers, Charles Green of Raceland, Kentucky, and Jay Forrest Green of Monroe, North Carolina. Three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Freeman Green will be conducted Wednesday, December 16 at 2:00pm from the Calhoun Community Church, with Pastor Jerry Rice officiating. Active pallbearers serving are David Green, Timothy Green, Larry Green, Joseph Green, Gary Sayer and Alan Green. Charlie Allen will serve as honorary pallbearer. Interment will follow the service in the Fain Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Tuesday from 4:00pm until 9:00pm.
