Dorothy Gail Stanfield Brake passed to her eternal reward on 11/7/24, greeting her beloved family and sister Karen Diann Stanfield Fauber in heaven on Karen’s 76th birthday.
Gail was a graduate of the 1970 Class of Red Bud High School. She received her Bachelor of Education from the University of Georgia and Master of Education from Berry College. Gail was an educator of Social Science in Gordon County Schools for 30 years. Gail began her career at Fairmount High School, where she taught for one year, then Red Bud High School for 15 years, and finished her teaching career at Gordon Central High School, where she was Social Science Department Head until her retirement.
Gail was also an employee of Big Star/Colonial Stores for 20+ years, during which she served the Gordon County community as a faithful follower of our LORD JESUS CHRIST. Her ability to know grocery prices and calculate the “best deal” was unparalleled.
Gail was an amazing cook. She loved to plant a garden, preserve vegetables, and especially give them away to others. One of her favorite pastimes was watching cooking channels such as Food Network.
Gail established and continued the Stanfield family tradition of serving lunch every Sunday after church as her parents had done before her. Often, church members, community friends, and even strangers were invited to our family dinners. She always told her family she would do it as long as she lived to continue the legacy of her parents…always having an open door of good country food and, most importantly…love.
Gail, her sister Karen, and her husband Wayne Fauber purchased The Lighthouse Christian Bookstore some 30+ years ago. Gail used her access of Bibles to share the gospel all over Gordon County. She loved to personally evangelize and give away “the witness Bible,” …often leading them to JESUS CHRIST. The Lighthouse became a hub for ministry, where “prayer would often break out” for whomever was in need. Countless testimonies have been given of salvations, healings, and restoration.
Gail had a heart for the incarcerated …from students she taught to family members. To the stranger…she fulfilled Matthew 25:35-40 - “Verily I say unto you, in as much as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”
Gail served her LORD JESUS CHRIST from age 5 in her beloved Crane Eater Community Church as choir director, Children's Christmas Play Director, Church Bus Organizer and driver, Sunday School Teacher, cook of Community meals, organizer of the 55 Club—monthly service for 55 and older of CECC, and the list goes on.
Gail was an amazing caregiver. She was always willing to stay with the sick, provide food, whatever she could do to, she was willing.
Gail is survived by her husband, Warren Brake, to whom she was married for 22 years; her sister, LaDonna (Donna) Stanfield Gay (Paul); her sister-in-law, Hilda Stanfield; and her brother-in-law, Wayne Fauber. She was preceded in death by her sister Karen Diann Fauber, brothers Lynn Stanfield, Larry and Carolyn Stanfield, Terry Stanfield, and parents Jack Willard Stanfield and Ida Vivian Muse Stanfield. Her nieces and nephews also survive Gail: Jennifer Stanfield Holden (Ryan), Lucretia Stanfield Cantrell (Al), Emily Stanfield, Keith Stanfield (Paige), Kristi Stanfield, Megan Gay Stephens (Cory), and Nathan Gay (Jade).
