Gary Levin Phillips

Mr. Gary Levin Phillips, age 55 of Calhoun, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Redmond Regional Medical Center. He was born in Gordon County on April 20, 1956, son of the late D.F. and Janelle Thomas Phillips. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Phillips and Terry Phillips; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lois and Cecil Johnson.

During his lifetime, Gary was Chief of the Gordon County Fire Department, and also employed by Price Floor Covering, Averett Express, and North Georgia Flooring as Sales Manager at the time of his death. He was a member of Heritage Baptist Church and the Oothcalooga Masonic Lodge of Calhoun.

Survivors include his wife, Sonya Phillips of the residence; a son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Jessica Phillips; a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Brent Darnell; a step-son, Blake Dean and his wife Ashley; and a step-daughter, Amanda Dean, all of Calhoun. Other survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Sammy and Denise Phillips of Ringgold; a sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Jon Betts of Cullman, AL; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Andrea Johnson; and two grandchildren, Bryanna Darnell and Brantley Phillips.

Funeral services for Mr. Gary Levin Phillips will be held Friday, December 30th at 2:00pm from the Heritage Baptist Church, with Rev. Brent Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Fain Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Keith Phillips, Danny Phillips, Craig Betts, Chris Betts, Jay Betts, and Brent Darnell. Honorary pallbearers are Alan Price, Jerome Crump, Joey Jordon, Bill Price, Darryl Brown, L.C. Grogan, Kenny Seabolt, Matt Wadsworth, Tim Wadsworth, and employees of the Gordon County Sheriff's Department and the Gordon County Fire Department.

The family will receive friends at the Heritage Baptist Church Thursday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm. In Lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Mr. Phillips memory to the Heritage Baptist Church building fund.
