Gay Grizzle

July 25, 1927 — June 1, 2008

Rev. Gay Grizzle, age 80 of Calhoun, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2008 at Gordon Hospital following an extended illness. He was born in Coose Bay, Oregon on July 25, 1927, son of the late Eli Washington Grizzle and Dora Mae Seabolt Grizzle. Rev. Grizzle was retired from the Bowater Corporation and was the Pastor of Amazing Grace Baptist Church. He was a veteran, having served his country in the US Air Force during the years 1947 through 1951.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Maureen Roye Grizzle; two sons and daughters-in-law, Sammy and Beverly Grizzle of Cartersville, and Jeff and Debbie Grizzle of Calhoun; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Dale Silvers, and Kim and Lane Tow, both of Calhoun; and a sister, Eunice Carney of Calhoun. Grandchildren; Denise Ningen of Columbia, Maryland, Shane Grizzle of Dallas, Georgia, Matthew and Jeremy Silvers, Zachary and Blake Grizzle, and Jennifer and Jacob Tow, all of Calhoun; great-grandchildren, James Michael Ningen, Timothy Sean Ningen, Christopher David Ningen, and Robert Andrew Ningen, all of Columbia, Maryland; and nieces and nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Rev. Gay Grizzle will be conducted Tuesday, June 3, at 2:00pm from the Moss Memorial Baptist Church, with Rev. Clinton Green, Rev. Jerry Gaddis, and Rev. Lamar Beason officiating. Interment will follow in the Chandler Cemetery. Active pallbearers are grandsons and will include Shane Grizzle, Matthew Silvers, Jeremy Silvers, Zachary Grizzle, Blake Grizzle, Jacob Tow, James Michael Ningen, Timothy Ningen, Christopher Ningen, and Robert Ningen. Honorary pallbearers will include Harvey Gowens, Edward Gowens, Larry Roye, Billy Carpenter, Danny Carney, Doyle Grizzle, and former co-workers of Bowater, and they may meet at the church Tuesday at 1:30pm.

The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Monday between the hours of 5:00pm and 9:00pm.
