Mrs. Geneva Rainey Barrett, 84 of Calhoun, died Friday, February 24, 2017 at Calhoun Health Care following several years of declining health. She was born in Pickens County, GA on September 17, 1932, daughter of the late A.A. (Merrick) Childers and the late Minnie Childers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, E.C. Rainey in 1977, her second husband, William (Bill) Barrett in 1989; a daughter, Susan Carol Rainey; sisters, Mildred Childers and June Childers; brothers, Weldon Childers, Wiley Childers, J.C. Childers, Claude Childers, Hollis Childers, and Tifton Childers; a step-son, Jack Rainey; and a grandchild, David Goss.
Mrs. Barrett had owned and operated Grandmothers Day Care, and had retired as a Nurse at Calhoun Health Care. She was a Girl Scout Leader, and a member and Past Worthy Matron of Joe P. Bowdin O.E.S. She was a member of Plainview Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Jeff Rainey of Calhoun; her daughters and sons-in-law, Yvonne Goss (Ronald) of Adairsville, Kathy Long (Raymond) of Rydal, Lynn Galman (Dwayne) of Adairsville, and Ellen Lee (Mark) of White; her step-children,Barbara Ann Smith, Hazel Hefner, Phyllis Crandall, Cecil Rainey, Mike Rainey, and their families; a sister, Willene Buchannon of Jasper; grandchildren, Karen Jones, Mark Long, Brandon Goss, Mason Rainey, Jason Hogan, Christy Jones, Katrina Reyes, and Donavan Graham; great-grandchildren, Adrienne Long, Jasmine Goss, Breanna Goss, McKenzie Jones, Gabriel Jones, Allana Hogan, Allie Reyes, Manuel Reyes, Tori Dean, Karlie Dean, and Elana Dean; and great-great grandchildren, Kaleigh, Kaiden, Lexi, Bryson, and Bryleigh.
Services to honor the life of Mrs. Geneva Rainey Barrett will be held Sunday, February 26th at 4:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Ronald Goss and Rev. Mark Lee officiating. Interment will follow in Blackwood Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include Brandon Goss, Gabriel Jones, Roger Jones, Jason Hogan, Donavan Graham, and Don Lumpkin. Honorary pallbearers are staff and management of Calhoun Health Care.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 11:00 AM until the service hour of 4:00 PM.
