Mr. George Worley, age 89 of the New Town Community in Calhoun, died Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Calhoun Health Care. He was a life-long resident of Gordon County, born on February 23, 1924 to the late Curby and Annie Lucille Moore Worley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Annie Mae Cox Worley; a son, Jeffery Charles Worley; a daughter, Norma Jane Worley; siblings, Max Worley, Charles Worley, Gussie Holland and her husband Jack, and Nellie Parks and her husband Roy; and a grandchild, Charmin Worley.
Mr. Worley was co-owner and operator of Worley's Shell Service Station for 27 years, and was employed with Watkins Construction up until retirement. He was a veteran, serving his country in the US Army during WWII, and recipient of the Purple Heart. George was a member and Deacon of New Town Baptist Church, and was church treasurer and song leader for a number of years.
He leaves behind a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Sue Worley; a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Jack Hensley; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Faye Worley, and Winfred and Beverly Worley, all of Calhoun; two sisters, Doris Blackstock of Calhoun, and Sue Bearden of Cassville; an ex-daughter-in-law, Debbie Blevins; and a sister-in-law, Ruby Worley of Calhoun. Grandchildren surviving are Rev. Stacy and Kesha Hensley, Andy and Holly Worley, Charisse Worley, Kelly and Jessica Hensley, Cody Hensley, Justin and Jessica Worley, and Brody Hensley; and great-grandchildren, Zach, A.J., Trent, and Karis Grace Hensley, and Kaylee and Chase Worley. A host of nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. George Worley will be held Saturday, October 26th at 1:00 PM from New Town Baptist Church, with Rev. Walter Hare and Rev. Stacy Hensley officiating. Music will be arranged by the New Town Baptist Church Trio. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Deacons of New Town Baptist Church. Mr. Worley's Sunday School class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The Worley family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Friday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
