George Delma Blackmon

March 9, 1928 — February 26, 2008

Rev. George Delma Blackmon, age 79 of Calhoun, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, February 26th, 2008 in Floyd Medical Center, following two years declining health.

Rev. Blackmon was born March 9th, 1928 in Haralson County Georgia, but lived in Polk County, Georgia until July 1967. He then moved to Gordon County and worked there until he retired from Crown Craft.

He was called into the Baptist Ministry in 1961 and was pastor of several churches. He was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church in Felton, Georgia.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Blackmon; mother, Dovie Ann Morris Blackmon; brother, Hoyt Blackmon; sister, Hubie Nell Blackmon, and a son, Doyal Waylon Blackmon.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Laura Willene Bethune Blackmon; one son, George Edwin "Eddie" Blackmon of Calhoun; two daughters, Judy Shyrel and her husband Roger Dale Serritt of Calhoun, and Glenda Sue Cuzzort and her husband Denny Joe of Cedartown; daughter-in-law, Alice Louise Rissmiller Blackmon of Cedartown; and sisters, Bonnell Blackmon Shedd and Rachel Blackmon Shedd, both of Bremen. Ten grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services for Rev. George Delma Blackmon will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 p.m., from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Jonathan Blackmon, Rev. Harold Hamrick and Rev. Dillard Waits officiating. Interment will follow in the Gordon Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers serving will include Eddie Blackmon, Denny Cuzzort, Michael Blackmon, Bill Mumpower, Art Williamson and Robert Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will include Tony Norris, Brother Earl Partain Sr., Hubert Johnson, Paul Mealer, Paul Jones, James "Bear" Huddleston, Seborn Swan, Joey Cuzzort, Anthony Trawick and Charlie Pendergrass. Music will be arranged by Sue Cuzzort, Caleb Thomason and Bro.Earl Partain Sr. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m.
