Mrs. Georgia Mae Slaughter, 72 of Calhoun, GA died Friday, April 10, 2015 at her home following a brief illness. She was born in Floyd County on September 21, 1941, daughter of the late Ralph and Annie M. Holland Gwin, Jr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Waymond A. Gwin.
Prior to retirement, Mrs. Slaughter was employed with Tilton Truck and Auto Repair. She was a member of Way of the Cross Church in Sugar Valley.
She leaves behind her husband of 32 years, Ollie Harris Slaughter; three sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie and Judy Ellis of Calhoun, Phillip and Claudia Ellis of Atlanta, and Charlie and Tresa Slaughter of Blue Ridge; and two daughters and a son-in-law, Karen Mitchell of Calhoun and her companion, Kenneth Logan, and Brenda and Ellis Earwood of Resaca. Grandchildren surviving are Karen D. Stevens, Margaret Brookshire, Kayla Mitchell, Alex Ellis, Emilie Ellis, April Earwood, Timothy Slaughter, Richie Stevens, Michial Brookshire, and Eddie McCoy; and great-grandchildren, George, Daniel, and Ansley Brookshire, Juniper and Jackson Stevens, Wesley Pace, and Brennan and Emma Slaughter. Other survivors include a niece, Pam Gwin; a nephew, Darryl Silvis; great nieces, Sasha L. Piper and Amber L. Piper; and many more beloved family members and friends.
Services to honor the life of Mrs. Georgia Mae Slaughter will be held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, April 14th from Way of the Cross Church, 479 Bayview, Sugar Valley, GA, with Jimmy Black, Sr. and Alfred Freeman officiating. Interment will follow in the Sugar Valley Old Methodist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Jimmy Black, Jr., Richie Stevens, Michial Brookshire, Darryl Silvis, Bob Wilson Coker, Jr., and Steve Coker. Honorary pallbearers are Raymond Shirley, Stephen Randolph, and Mike Trammell.
The Slaughter family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, April 13th, beginning at 10:00 AM.
