Mr. Arnold Gerald Brown, age 81 of Calhoun, Georgia, died Friday, September 5, 2014 at his home following several years of declining health. He was born in Murray County, Georgia on May 1, 1933, son of the late Robert and Mattie Sue Staten Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Edward Lamar Brown and Thomas Lee Brown; and a sister, Louise Causby.
Gerald was a veteran, serving his country in the US Army from 1953 through 1955, and was employed with Lockheed for 10 years. He was a Gordon County Commissioner from District 3 from 1990 through 1993; a Mason; a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Moose Lodge. Gerald was a member of the State Democratic Committee of the Democratic Party of Georgia, and received numerous commendations from three different Georgia governors. He retired from Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union after 25 years.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Wandal Odom Brown; a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Shelley Callier of Rome, GA; a daughter and son-in-law, Kelley and Randy Finnell of Chattanooga, TN; a brother and sister-in-law, Roland and Peggy Brown of Calhoun; two sisters, Millie Hendrix and Lois Thompson, both of Calhoun; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dorsey and Carolyn Odom of Jonesboro, GA; grandchildren, Corey, Robert, and Kacee Mcentyre, Brittany and Tripp Powell, and Amber Callier; and a great-grandchild, Mary James Powell. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Arnold Gerald Brown will be held Sunday, September 7th at 3:00 PM from Heritage Baptist Church, 345 Curtis Parkway SE, Calhoun, with Rev. Brent Davis officiating. Eulogies will be given by Eddie Peterson, Robert McEntyre, and Corey McEntyre. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Greg Causby, Roger Causby, Dwight Brown, Newton Hendrix, Ryan Bryant, Ethan Brown, Brian Hendrix, and Chip Bevil. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Brent Box, Dr. Eric Turner, and Dr. Max Parrott; and members of the Coffee Club, including Reed Davis, Billy Fallis, J.B. Rickett, Paul McEntyre, Ed Lewis, Steve Cochran, Billy Scoggins, Milton Wright, Tony Erwin, Chuck Richards, and Red Robbins.
The Brown family will receive friends on Sunday at Heritage Baptist Church from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour of 3:00 PM. The family request that in lieu of flowers, donation may be made in Geralds memory to the American Cancer Society
