Gladys Blalock

Mrs. Gladys N. Blalock, age 95 of the Red Bud Community, Calhoun, passed away at Calhoun Health Care Wednesday morning, April 11, 2012. She was born in Gordon County on September 21, 1916, the youngest daughter of the late James L. Nicols and Emma Wall Nichols, and grew up in the Ranger Community.

She was married to the late Amos B. Blalock for 67 years, making their home in the Red Bud Community.

Mrs. Blalock was a lifelong member of the Liberty Baptist Church in Ranger, teaching various Sunday school classes, singing in the church choir and serving as the church secretary/treasurer for several years. She was employed in the textile industry.

She was preceded in death by husband Amos Blalock in 2001; a daughter in law, Sue R. Blalock in 2010; a brother, James "Jimmy" Nicols; and sisters, Eula N. Carden, Jessie N. McAfee and Nellie N. Wilson.

Survivors include a son, Jerry L. Blalock of the Red Bud Community, Calhoun; a grandson, Dr. Russell L. Blalock and his wife Tasha of Macon; step grandsons, David F. Reece of Woodstock, Steve H. Reece and his wife Nancy of Woodstock; step-granddaughter Sharon G. Nix of Woodstock; and sister in law, Velma Nicols of Dalton. Step great-grand children are Elijah Wilson, Rachelle Wilson, Jordan Wilson Blalock, Christopher Reece, Madison Reece, Kelly Nix, Shawn Nix and Casey Nix; and step great-great grandchild Gabriel Wilson. Caregivers Joyce Franklin and Karen Kirby, and several nieces and nephews who she loved very much also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gladys N. Blalock will be held Sunday, April 15th at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Dr. Russell Blalock and Rev. Wesley Hunt officiating. Kathryn Quinn will have charge of the music. Interment will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Park. Pallbearers serving will include Glen Carden, John McAfee, Morris Nichols, Jerry Price, David Reece and Eddie Wilson.

The Blalock family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Saturday, April 14th between the hours of 5 PM until 9 PM.
