Grace Newman Nichelson

Mrs. Grace Newman Nichelson, age 93 of Rydal, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2009 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Wendell and Janie Nichelson, following an extended illness. She was born in Fannin County, Georgia on July 15, 1915, daughter of the late Thomas Newman and Margarette Hensley Newman.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Dewey Nichelson; a brother, Willie Newman; a sister, Dicie Hughes; two infant sons; a son-in-law, Carmace Reece; and a grandson, Bryan Nichelson.

During her lifetime, Mrs. Nichelson was a housewife and mother, and loved sewing and gardening. She gave her heart and life to God at an early age, and served Him every day. She loved her Lord and Savior and her family more than life, and was one of the oldest members of the Ludville Church of God.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Wendell and Janie Nichelson, Glenn and Audrey Nichelson, all of Rydal; and Tommy and Teresa Nichelson of White; five daughters, Helen Greenway and her husband Jim of Cartersville, Evely Reece of Calhoun, Naomi Hamrick and her husband Paul, Nikki Fowler and her husband Larry, all of Cartersville, and Annetta Evans and her husband Jimmy of Adairsville; and a granddaughter she raised, Crissy Coleman and her husband Junior of Douglasville. Twenty-six grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, twenty-four great-great grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Grace Newman Nichelson will be conducted Sunday, July 12 at 2:00pm from the Ludville Church of God, with Dr. Marvin Ellis and Rev. Richie Franklin officiating. Interment will follow in the Ludville Church of God Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include Kyle Greenway, Nathan Whitmire, Ronnie Reece, Jeremy Evans, Jamie Evans, Timothy Evans, Dean Nichelson, Shane Nichelson, Matthew Crumley, Jessie Benson, and Christopher Fowler.

The Nichelson family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Saturday evening between the hours of 6:00pm and 9:00pm.
