Hazel Burchett Cochran

Mrs. Hazel Burchett Cochran, age 86 of Calhoun went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, June 15, 2017. She was born in Gordon County, GA on December 2, 1930, daughter of the late Claude and Clyde Baker Burchett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Tom" Cochran in 1994; brothers, Marvin and Max Burchett; and a sister, Ivey Lee Childers.
Hazel was a lifelong resident of Gordon County, and attended Red Bud Schools. She was one of the oldest members of Salem Baptist Church, and was a member of the Ken Conner Sunday School Class. She loved going to the Gordon Senior Center, and was a member of the Rocking Chair Band for many years. She loved working with her flowers and in her garden. She was employed by Mercy Care prior to being employed at the Voluntary Action Center, where she worked for 13 years prior to her retirement in 2009. Hazel had many friends and many wonderful memories while employed at the VAC.
Survivors include her daughters, Karen Poole and her husband Randy, and Becky Smith; her sons, Randall Cochran and his wife Helen, Ricky Cochran and his wife Marie, Mitchell Cochran and his wife Carolyn, and David Cochran and his wife Pam; a brother, Arlon Burchett; a brother-in-law, Billy Cochran and his wife Sara; her grandchildren, Shane (Christy) Cochran, Scott (Kimberly) Cochran, Lacey (Jeremy) Sisson, Misty (Mark) McCarley, Nick (Caroline) Cochran, Josh (Keara) Cochran, Terry (Amanda) Cochran, Amanda (Timothy) Smith, Sabrina (Chad) Hester, Adam (Lindsey) Smith, Tiffany (Justin) Wright, Ezra Smith, Gracie Smith, and Chris (Madonna) Higdon. Twenty four great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins, also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hazel Burchett Cochran will be held on Saturday, June 17th at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Eddie Brannon and Rev. Ralph Kinman officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery. Pallbearers serving include Shane Cochran, Scott Cochran, Nick Cochran, Terry Cochran, Josh Cochran, Timothy Smith, and Chad Hester. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Childers, Gary Childers, Scott Childers, Eddie Cochran, Chris Higdon, and members of the Ken Conner Sunday School Class of Salem Baptist Church. The Cochran family would like to thank Compassus Hospice Care and their Nurse, Heather.
