Hazel Ratcliff

Mrs. Hazel Maybelle Ratcliff, age 86 of Chatsworth, passed away Monday afternoon, March 31, 2008.

Mrs. Ratcliff was born on March 23, 1922 in Gilmer County, Georgia, daughter of the late Rev. L.C. Sluder and Emma Hollofield Sluder. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph J. Ratcliff to whom she had been married for 24 years. During her lifetime she was employed in the textile industry, and was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Oakman.

Mrs. Ratcliff is survived by one daughter, Linda Choate and her husband, Ernie of Calhoun; one son, Johnny Elrod and his wife Marcelle, of Chatsworth; two sisters, Ruby Ratcliff and Geneva Brown and her husband Virgil, both of Oakman; and two brothers, Jimmy Sluder and his wife Barbara, of Oakman, and Jordan Sluder of Calhoun. Six grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive, along with a very special friend, Milton Coleman of Chatsworth.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hazel Maybelle Ratcliff will be conducted Wednesday, at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Jerry Hammontree officiating. Pallbearers serving will include Raymond Fouts, Randall Fouts, Richard Fouts, Billy Couch, Charles Sluder and Mitchell Sheppard. Perry Ball will serve as an honorary escort. Interment will follow the service at the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery in Oakman. The family will begin receiving friends at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home Tuesday evening, after 3:30 p.m.
