Helen Metcalf Gilbert

Mrs. Helen Metcalf Gilbert, age 82 of Plainville, Georgia, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2007 at Gordon Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Gilbert was born on October 05, 1924 in Gordon County, daughter of the late Henry and Addie Burns Metcalf. She was also preceded in death by her husband Buford "Bud" Gilbert, to whom she was married for 54 years, and by a beloved grandson, Ray Gilbert. She was a retired nurse from Northwest Georgia Regional Hospital in Rome, Georgia after 30 years of service and where she began her nursing career as a nurse's aide and then became an RN and LPN. She was a loved neighbor in the Scottsville Community where she had lived for 51 years and where she served as a nurse to everyone in the community when anyone needed medical help or advice, they would always go to "Gilbert" as she was called for help. She was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Plainville.

Survivors include sons George R. Gilbert of Calhoun, Ralph S. Gilbert with whom she lived with of Plainville, Georgia; Jimmy F. Gilbert of Rome, Georgia; William M. "Mike" Gilbert and his wife, Ann of Rome, Georgia and Richard Barry Gilbert and his wife, Darlene of Plainville, Georgia; daughter; Frances Ann Sutton and her husband; Jimmy of Plainville, Georgia; brothers; Max Metcalf of Shannon, Georgia and Lyman Metcalf of Nevada; sisters Eva Broome of Plainville, Georgia and Brenda Jackson of Cleveland, TN; grandchildren; Byron Sutton, Pam Bramblett, Tonya Parker, Blake Gilbert, Tyler Gilbert, Neveah Gilbert and Wanda; great grandchildren; Chelsea and Caleb Johnson; Jarrod Daniel; Jayden Compton, Jacob Crump; Skylar and Logan Sutton; Haley and Hunter Parker; step- great grandchildren; Celia and Regan Bramblett; Rockey, Jr; Dylan and Davey. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Metcalf Gilbert will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Monday from the Fellowship Baptist Church in Plainville with Rev. Blake Gilbert and Rev. Richard Webster officiating. Music will be arranged by the church choir. Interment will follow in the Family Cemetery. Active pallbearers serving will include George Gilbert, Ralph Gilbert, Tyler Gilbert, Mike Gilbert, Barry Gilbert, and Jimmy Sutton. These gentlemen are asked to meet at the funeral home 1:30p.m. Honorary pallbearers serving include Byron Sutton, Blake Gilbert, Jim Gilbert, Wanda Crump, Pam Braublett, Tonya Parker, and Neveah Jones Gilbert. Honorary pallbearers are asked to meet at the church at 2:30 p.m. Monday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening during the hours of 5 until 9 p.m.
