Mrs. Helen Smith, age 95 of Calhoun, passed away Monday, January 19, 2009 at Gordon Health Care. She was born in Walker County on May 2, 1913, daughter of the late Peter and Emma Sprayberry Stanfield, and was the last remaining of thirteen children. During her lifetime, Mrs. Smith had worked in the textile industry, and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy Louise and Paul McEntire of Calhoun; grandchildren, Kevin and Susie McEntire, Melea and Johnny Harkins, and Bob McEntire; great-grandchildren, Ian Thomas, Marla McEntire, Christopher McEntire, Lacey McEntire, and Katlyn Dacus; a great-great grandchild, Ethan Thomas; and a special niece, Margaret Summerville.
Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Smith will be conducted Wednesday, January 21 at 2:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Jimmy Faith officiating. Interment will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Johnny Harkins, Bob McEntire, John Early, Carey McEntire, Ian Thomas, and Kevin McEntire. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Tuesday from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.
