Mr. Homer Guy Silvers, age 87 of Ranger, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2009 at his residence. He was born on August 24, 1922 in Gordon County, son of the late Thomas Lee and Callie Craig Silvers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Silvers, a grandson, Timothy David Silvers, and a brother, John H. Silvers.
During his lifetime, he served his country with the United States Army, and worked for Fort Mountain Lumber Company for 27 years. Mr. Silvers enjoyed working outside in his garden. He was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl Leaner Sanford Silvers, to whom he was married for 67 years; two daughters, Judy Oliver and her husband Philip, and Linda Harrill and her husband Barney, all of Ranger; a son, David Silvers and his wife Glenda of Calhoun; two grandchildren, Tammy Oliver and Kimberly Casey; and one great grandchild, Kristen Casey. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Homer Guy Silvers will be conducted Tuesday at 3:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Frank Cronan and Rev. Bobby Causby officiating. Active pallbearers serving will include George Pilcher, Eddie Pack, Anthony Oliver, Jerry Townsend, Ray Silvers and Dale Silvers. Honorary escort will be Joe and Melody O'Neal, Brady O'Neal, Colton O'Neal and George Southgate. Interment will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Park.
The family will begin receiving friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Sunday after 5:30pm.
