Homer Howard Bowen

Mr. Homer Howard Bowen, also known as the Christmas light man, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2010 at his home. He was born in Gordon County on February 1, 1936, son of the late Lem and Rose McFersion Bowen. Mr. Bowen was a self- employed cabinet maker and loved creating custom made Christmas lights.

In addition to his parents, was also preceded in death by three sisters, Odell McTaggart, Mary Wilson and Ethel Crain; and by a brother, L.J. Bowen.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-two years, Dimple Taylor Bowen; two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Christine Bowen, and Randy and Kathy Bowen; grandchildren, Beth and Joe Maddox, Leatte and James Hardy, Ariel and Mitchell Silvers and Terrance Bowen; and ten great-grandchildren. Nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Homer Howard Bowen will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 p.m. from the Sugar Valley Old Methodist Church, with Rev. Alan Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers serving will include Joe Maddox, Mitchell Silvers, Hue Don Wilson, Helton Hawkins, Kenneth Cronan and Kenneth Logan. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5:00pm until 9:00pm.
