Mr. Houston Tarver Scott, age 74 of Calhoun, passed away Monday, January 12, 2009 at Gordon Hospital following several years of declining health. He was born in Murray County on January 11, 1935, son of the late Earl and Fannie Hicks Scott. Mr. Scott was retired from the auto salvage industry, and was a member of White Graves Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Jerry Scott; and two brothers, Earl Sandford Scott, Jr., and Marvin Scott.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Barbara Jean Talley Scott; four children; Hubert Scott and his wife Sherry of Crandall, Connie Cordova and her husband Billy of Dalton, and Tammy Kirby and Michael Hall, both of Calhoun; two brothers, Roy Scott and his wife Polly of Resaca, and Danny Scott of Calhoun; and a sister, Edna Dollar of Resaca. Nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Houston Tarver Scott will be conducted Thursday, January 15 at 2:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Isaac Johns and Rev. J. Clinton Green officiating. Interment will follow in the Chandler Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Danny Parker, Leroy Taylor, Bradley Scott, Grady Burger, Matt Hyde, and Herman Patterson. Honorary pallbearers are Billy Talley, Arthur Watson, and the Men's Adult Sunday School Class of White Graves Baptist Church. These gentlemen are asked to assemble at the funeral home Thursday at 1:30pm. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Wednesday after 6:00pm.
