Hubert Arthur Powers

Mr. Hubert Arthur Powers, age 73 of the Sonoraville Community, died Sunday morning, January 20, 2008 at Gordon Health Care following a brief illness.

He was a lifelong resident of Gordon County in the Sonoraville Community, where he was a member of the Sonoraville Baptist Church, and was active in the Adult II Sunday School Class, the Board of Deacons and the adult choir. He was also a member of Sonora Lodge #221 F&AM of Sonoraville. Mr. Powers was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and retired later from the Georgia Department of Transportation. He loved playing the guitar and loved his community, where he worked toward its betterment.

He was the much beloved brother of Dorothy and her husband, J.C. Maddox; Martha Powers, Robert Powers, Carolyn Mouzon, Dave Powers, and uncle of Harry Maddox, Beth Maddox, Robert Powers II and Ron Mouzon. A great nephew, Coleman Powers; great nieces, Tabatha Powers, Lauren Maddox and Leslie Maddox also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ludie Booth Powers, by his parents, Harry and Ila Powers, and older brother, Harry Powers, Jr.

Funeral services for Mr. Hubert Arthur Powers will be conducted Monday at 3:00 p.m. at the Sonoraville Baptist Church, with the pastor Rev. Steve Skates officiating. Singing will be arranged by Mr. Michael Johnson. Active pallbearers serving will include Dave West, Michael Johnson, Robert Wages, Louie McEntyre, Ted Collins and Brian Gutherie. Honorary escort will be Harold Crump and the Deacons of Sonoraville Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Powers Family Cemetery at the Sonoraville Baptist Church.
