Mrs. Iranell "Pat" Garland, 81, of the Mount Olive Community died at her home on Thursday, January 29, 2015; she was surrounded by her family. Pat was born in Aragon, Georgia on July 3, 1933; she was the daughter of the late William Owen and Opal Duke Craton. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Garland, in 2005; her sons, Michael Garland and Wylie Garland Jr,; her daughter, Sherry Ann Garland; her brother, R.W. Craton.
An active Christian, Pat loved attending church. She had worked in many professions, and was an avid volunteer. She enjoyed taking part at the activities of the Gordon County Senior Center, where she was a member of The Rocking Chair Band. For many years, she was a highly successful representative with Home Interiors Inc., where she was honored with many prizes and trips. Many will remember the wonderful cakes she baked. Pat was devoted to her family; they will cherish the memories of her love for each of them.
Pat is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Barbara Garland, of Sonoraville, Joel and Tania Garland, of Calhoun, David and Jennifer Garland, of Rydal; her daughters and sons-in-law, Eva Dixon, of Sonoraville; Linda Pass, of Sonoraville; Wanda and Gary Gentry, of Sonoraville, Marcia and David West, of Sonoraville; grandchildren, Dawn Garland, Misty Garland, Crystal Porter, Nicholas Smith, Jason Smith, Donald Garland Jr., Sherry Ann Odum, Randy Dixon Jr., Matthew Gentry, Rebecca Gentry, Marvin McDougle III, LeeAnn Eldridge, Chris West, Amanda West, Kimberly West, Summer Garland, Brooklyn Garland, Chase Garland, Rachel Rogers, and James Wilson; her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Mabel Craton; her sister and her partner, Beverly and Melony Craton; her sister-in-law, Shirley Craton; twenty seven great-grandchildren; other loving relatives and many close friends.
The funeral service will be conducted on Monday, February 2, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. from Sonoraville Baptist Church with Rev. Howard Strickland and Rev. Ronnie Wells officiating. Mike Johnson and the Sonoraville Baptist Church Choir will arrange music for the service. Interment will follow at the Revealed Word Tabernacle Cemetery. Pallbearers are James Wilson, Marvin McDougle III, Randy Dixon, Matthew Gentry, Donald Garland Jr., Chase Garland, and Charlie Eldridge; other grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The Garland family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Sonoraville Baptist Church. Friends may sign the online guest register at www.maxbrannonandsons.com
