Mrs. Irene Willix Baker, age 85 of Calhoun, passed away June 18, 2008 at her residence. She was born in Cherokee, NC on August 31, 1922, daughter of the late Charlie and Lydia Clark Willix. Mrs. Baker was employed at the Gordon County Library, and was a member of Plainview Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil Willix and William Willix, and two sisters, June Waters and Hazel Causby.
Survivors include her husband, Buck Baker; a son, Wilton Baker, Jr. of Calhoun; a daughter, Penny Baker Burklin of Cumming; grandchildren, Eric and Evette Baker of Fairfax, VA, Dawn and Gregg Kemp of Villa Rica, GA, Elliott and Cindy Shaw of Calhoun, Matthew Shaw of Fort Walton Beach, FL, and Kellen Burklin of Cumming. One niece and other relatives also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Irene Willix Baker will be conducted Friday, June 20 at 11:00am from the Plainview Baptist Church, with Rev. Danny Adams and Rev. Benny Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the Plainview Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Eric Baker, Elliot Shaw, Matthew Shaw, Bobby Shaw, John Shaw, and K.O. Cornwell. These gentlemen are asked to meet at the funeral home Friday at 10:00am. Honorary pallbearers will include Rev. Larry Hibberts, Rev. Gary Hibberts, the Women's Bible Class of Plainview Baptist Church, Willie and Clara Hicks, members of the Senior Citizens Club on McConnell Road, Bill Gray, and Rev. G.W. Shaw. These are asked to meet at the church Friday at 10:45am. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00pm until 9:00pm.
