J. B. Smith

Mr. J.B. (Smitty) Smith, age 76 of Calhoun, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2008. He was born in Gordon County on January 3, 1932, son of the late Judson and Mary Lay Smith. Mr. Smith had been employed by the BP Corporation as a bookkeeper for 38 years. He was a veteran, having served his country in the United States Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Scott Smith and Todd Smith.

Survivors include a son, Greg Smith of Calhoun; a brother and sister-in-law, Hilburn and Shirlene Smith of Calhoun; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy and Terry McDougle of the Union Grove Community, and Brenda and Junior Ralston of Red Bud Road; a grandchild, Matt Smith, and a great grandchild, James Caleb Smith. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. J.B. (Smitty) Smith will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00am from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Jimmie Timms officiating. Interment will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Phillip Beamer, Jr., Marshall Sloan, Ricky Smith, Wally Stabenow, Tommy Benton, and Lamar Benton. These gentlemen are asked to meet at the funeral home Tuesday at 10:30am. Honorary pallbearers will be Phillip Beamer, Sr., Mitchell Moss, Rusty Smith, Junior Ralston, and Keith Ralston, and they are asked to meet at the funeral home Tuesday at 10:45am. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Monday evening from 6:00pm until 9:00pm.
