Mr. J. B. Williams, age 91 of Calhoun, passed away January 15, 2008 at Hamilton Medical Center. He was born in Gordon County on February 6, 1916, son of the late Benjamin Franklin (Frank) and Mary Bell Bunch Williams. Mr. Williams was retired from Georgia Textiles and was a deacon of Salem Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Gertrude Dilbeck Williams; two brothers, Warren and Herman Williams; and two sisters, Ruth Williams and Thelma Williams.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Cathy Williams; a sister, Inez Stewart; a grandson, Scott Williams and his wife Jamie; step-grandchildren, Andrew Preece and Ryann Preece, and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. J.B. Williams will be conducted Friday, January 18 at 2:00pm from the Salem Baptist Church, with Rev. William Roberts officiating. Music will be arranged by Travis Stephens. Interment will follow in the Haven of Rest Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will include Bobby Miller, Larry Vest, James England, M.D. Casey, Alan Jackson, and Gene Butterworth. These gentlemen are asked to meet at the funeral home Friday at 1:15pm. Honorary pallbearers will include the deacons of Salem Baptist Church. They are asked to meet at the church at 1:45pm. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday between the hours of 6:00pm and 9:00pm.
