J. D. Rogers Sr

Mr. J.D. Rogers, Sr., age 83 of Calhoun, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014 at Redmond Regional Medical Center. He was born in Floyd County, GA on January 13, 1931, son of the late George Ervin and Myrtle Chapman Rogers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Rogers was retired from Diamond Carpets. He was a member and Deacon of Eastgate Baptist Church.

He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Louise Waits Rogers of the residence; three sons, J.D. "Rooster" Rogers, Jr. and Susie Bennett of Calhoun, Jimmy Rogers and his wife Sharon of Rome, and Rev. Kenny Rogers and his wife Melanie of Adairsville; a daughter, Dolly Rogers of Calhoun; a sister, Virginia Adcock of Calhoun; six granddaughters, Kristin Holbert, Katie Rogers, Cameron Howard, Kelli Rogers, Kimberly Williams, and Karli Rogers; and his god-son, Jordan Lingerfelt. Nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many close friends also survive.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. J.D. Rogers, Sr. will be held Wednesday, March 19th at 2:00 PM from Eastgate Baptist Church, with Rev. Kenny Rogers, Rev. Sammy Hall, and Rev. Harold Blackstock officiating. Music will be arranged by the church choir. Interment will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Mac Knight, Kevin Knight, Chris Knight, Mike Stamey, Ronald Pass, and Chuck Holbert. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Mens and Ladies Sunday School class of Eastgate Baptist Church.

Mr. Rogers body will lie in state at Eastgate Baptist Church Wednesday from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour.

The Rogers family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
