J. E. Geckles Jr

Mr. J.E. Geckles, Jr., age 68 of Resaca, passed away Thursday, September 6, 2007 at his residence. He was born in Scottsboro, Alabama on June 25, 1939, son of the late J.E. Brough and Sarah Geckles. Mr. Geckles was retired and was the assistant pastor of the Dalton Free Holiness Church.

He was preceded in death by a son, Billy Ray Geckles, a daughter, Angela Rosemary Geckles, and twins Timmy and Tommy Geckles.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Mary Anderton Geckles; two daughters, Rita Cortazal and her husband Joey of Naples, Florida, and Cynthia Croft, of Naples, Florida; two brothers, Willard McCullough and Roy McCullough; two sisters, Christine Burnett and Linda Hutchinson, all of Alabama; and several grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. J.E. Geckles, Jr. will be conducted Saturday, September 8, at 2:00pm at the Dalton Free Holiness Church at 4643 S. Dixie Highway, Resaca. Rev. Edward Atchley and Rev. Todd McLain will officiate, with burial to follow in Chandler Cemetery. Mr. Geckles will lie in state at the church beginning Friday at 5:00pm until the funeral hour.

Active pallbearers will include Bro. Alford Thackerson, Bro. Jared Atchley, Bro. Jesse Atchley, Bro. Shane Clark, Bro. Shawn Clark, Bro. David Kincaid, and Bro. Austin Mooneyhan. Honoray pallbearers are Bro. Roger Pendergrass and Bro. Brian Lamb. These gentlemen are asked to meet at the church Saturday at 1:30pm.
