J. T. Walraven

February 23, 1924 — August 14, 2007

Mr. J.T. Walraven, age 83 of Chatsworth, passed away August 14, 2007 at Hamilton Medical Center. He was born in Murray County on February 23, 1924, son of the late Tom and Angie Hay Walraven. He was owner of Raven Carpet Mills, and was a charter member of Higher Praise Church of God for over 60 years.

Mr. Walraven was also preceded in death by a son, Hansel Walraven; a brother, Hershel Walraven of Resaca; and a sister, Willie Mae (Bill) Hooker of Chatsworth.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Minnie Gallman Walraven; six brothers; Brian Walraven of Calhoun, Tommy Walraven and Fred Walraven of Chatsworth, Carl Walraven of Rome, Larry Walraven of Resaca, and Willard Walraven of Calhoun; five sisters; Beaulah Pack of Resaca, Betty Childers of Chatsworth, Deborah Davis of Dalton, Sue Stone of Resaca, and Gladys Gossage of Calhoun. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. J.T. Walraven will be conducted Friday, August 17 at 3:00pm, from the Higher Praise Church of God, with Rev. Jimmy Hogan, Rev. Billy Tatum, and Rev. Isaac Johns officiating. Music will be arranged by Debbie Bagley. Interment will follow in the Sardis Cemetery. Mr. Walraven will lie in state at the church from 2:00pm until the funeral hour. Active pallbearers will include Kenneth "Jackie" Bright, Bob Gallman, Gary Cagle, Rodney DeFoor, Anthony Gallman, and Jeromy Walraven. These gentlemen are asked to meet at the funeral home Friday at 1:00pm. Honorary pallbearers are Jack Davis, Fred Walraven, Richard Davis, Carl Walraven, Brian Walraven, Larry Walraven, Tommy Childers, Wayne Ray, Larry Gallman, Marty Crow, Phillip Chapman, Gary Starks, Clemet Heffner, Willard Walraven, Bobby Davis, Tommy Walraven, Ray Cagle, and Tom Gallman. These gentlemen are asked to meet at the church Friday at 2:45pm. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Thursday after 4:00pm.
