Jack Atkins

Mr. Jack Atkins, age 88 of the Hill City Community, Resaca, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at his residence following several months of illness.

Mr. Atkins was born on July 4, 1921 in Floyd County, son of the late Robert Lee and Annie Battles Atkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Jimmy Atkins and Jackie Atkins. He served his country with the United States Navy during World War II, and was a retired employee of Fafnir Corporation of Calhoun as a machinist.

Survivors are his wife, Ruth Davis Atkins, to whom he was married for twenty-eight years; a daughter, Barbara Broom of Piedmont, Alabama; a son, Paul Atkins and his wife Jean of Rome; two step-daughters, Carol Cook of the Hill City Community, and Susan Robbins of Calhoun; two stepsons, Van Davis of Covington, and Dale Davis of Ringgold; two sisters, Dorothy Mitchell of Rome, and Ruby Thornton of Albany; and a brother, Robert Atkins. Three granddaughters, two grandsons, five step-grand daughters, five step-grandsons, seven great-grandchildren, sixteen step-great grandchildren, a great-great grandchild, and nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Jack Atkins will be conducted Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 3:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Reverend Rodney Carr and Mr. Chad Hargrove officiating. Active pallbearers serving will include Phillip Atkins, Thomas Keener, Brad Davis, Brent Davis, Tyler Robbins and Larry Cook. Honorary pallbearers are Dale Davis, Van Davis, Phil Robbins and Paul Atkins, Jr. Interment will follow the service at the Fain Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Wednesday from 5:00pm until 9:00pm.
