Jack Bowling

Mr. Jack "Railroad Jack" Bowling, age 83 of Orchard Hill, GA, formerly of Plainville, GA, died Monday, March 28, 2011 at Spalding Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in Gordon County on August 13, 1927, son of the late Samuel and Grace Bennett Bowling. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by five brothers, Dewey, Billy, Samuel Joseph, Melvin, and Jerry Bowling.

During his lifetime, Mr. Bowling was employed with Southern Railway for 38 years, and was a veteran, serving his country in the Army National Guard.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ophelia Welchel Bowling; three sons, Jack Bowling of Plainville, Fred L. Bowling and his wife Brenda S. Bowling of Calhoun, and Leon Bowling and his wife Brenda L. Bowling of Plainville; a daughter, Teresa Bowling Pickens and her husband Michael of Adairsville; and two sisters, Pauline Ralston of Chattanooga, TN, and Mary Lee Landress of Calhoun. Ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Jack "Railroad Jack" Bowling will be conducted Thursday, March 31st at 11:00am from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Danny Hightower officiating. Interment will follow in the Franklin Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Jonathon Bowling, Aubery Bowling, Levon Bowling, Aaron Bowling, Kendall Pickens, and Josh Bowling. Honorary pallbearers are Marisa Pickens, Maci Pickens, Amy Kirby, and Jessica Williams.

The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Wednesday after 3:00pm.
