Mr. Jack Harold Whitten, age 75 of Calhoun, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2008 at the Wood Dale Nursing Home in Dalton following three months of illness. He was born on September 2, 1932 in Borger, Texas, son of the late Ernest Mashburn Whitten and Belle Whitten. Mr. Whitten served his country with the United States Army and was a retired Ironworker. He was a member of the American Legion and the Calhoun Moose Lodge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters; Pauline Cook, Mary Williams, and Lillie Belle Petrey; and two brothers, Thomas C. Mashburn and James E. Whitten, Sr.
Survivors include nieces; Linda Joan Neff, Brenda Joyce Hood, Darlene Thaxton, Connie Rudd and Vickie Sims; nephews, Carl Allen Sims, James E. Whitten, Jr. and Michael Petrey; and step-nephews, Daniel Farmer and Kenneth Farmer.
Funeral services for Mr. Jack Harold Whitten will be conducted Saturday, May 24 at 2:00pm.from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Scott Shephard officiating. Pallbearers serving will include Brannon Fain, Danny Farmer, Jeff Waid, Samuel Ely, Allen Sims, Michael Petrey and John Purvis. Interment will follow the service at the Gordon Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home Friday during the hours of 5:00pm and 8:00pm.
