Rev. Jack Lamar Baker, age 79 of Calhoun, passed away Friday, March 28, 2014 at his residence following several years of declining health. He was born in Whitfield County on October 7, 1934, son of the late Wilburn and Myrtle Baker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nettie Baker; and a brother, William Bill Baker.
During is lifetime, Jack was employed with Lockheed Corporation from 1954 until 1972; was a self-employed painter with his father for many years; drove a school bus from 1974 until 1989; was assistant Fire Chief for the Resaca Fire Department from 1975 till 1994; and was a full-time employee with the Gordon County Sheriffs Department from 1990 till 2001. He had a radio ministry in Calhoun for 21 years; and was a Sunday School teacher and member of Resaca First Baptist Church.
He leaves behind his wife of 14 years, Alma Cox Baker of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joey and Kim Baker of Resaca, and Steve and Sharon Baker of Adairsville; two daughters, Diane Kirk of Calhoun, and Glenda Kuglar of Atlanta; step-daughters, Gail Godfrey, Tammy Sneed, Glenda Denning, and Sandy Cashon, all of Calhoun; a brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Alice Baker of Dalton; and a sister, Joann Wilbanks of Dalton. Grandchildren surviving are April May, Cody Baker, Nick Kuglar, Sammy Powell, and Joshua Kirk; eight step-grandchildren; and great-grandchildren, Kaylee Powell, Angle Kirk, Lilly May, and Briley May.

Services to celebrate the life of Rev. Jack Lamar Baker will be held Sunday, March 30th at 4:30 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with David Nix and Keith Thomas officiating. Music will be arranged by Gail Godfrey and Paul Sneed. Interment will follow the service at Corinth Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Sid Roberts, David Gibson, Shane Carter, Todd Rutledge, Cody Baker, and Jeremy May.
The Baker family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Saturday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
